The case of the Law of the Rights of Indigenous Villages and Communities of the State of Oaxaca is studied more concretely. Special attention is also payed to how the recognition of indigenous autonomy does not affect the national sovereignty. The case-study mentioned discusses how the indigenous villages in the past maintained their own judicial systems and how these are still maintained at the communitarian and municipal level in the context of Oaxaca. This case-study also reconsiders the discussion of the internal decolonization of Mexico in order to incorporate indigenous villages into national and state legal structures.
